General Dentistry In Cardiff.
Dentistry for The Whole Family.
At West Grove Dental, we provide comprehensive dental care for the whole family, from children attending their early dental appointments through to adults looking to maintain a healthy smile for life.
We believe that building good oral health habits from a young age can make a real difference. Regular dental examinations allow us to monitor the development of your child’s teeth, identify potential problems early and provide preventive care and advice tailored to their age and individual needs.
Our team takes a friendly and reassuring approach to children’s dentistry, helping younger patients become familiar with the dental environment and encouraging positive experiences from their very first visits. We can provide guidance on brushing, diet, fluoride and caring for developing teeth, helping children understand the importance of looking after their smiles.
For parents and adults, our focus remains on prevention, regular examinations and personalised dental care. By caring for different generations of the same family, we can build long-term relationships and support your family’s oral health through every stage of life.
Routine Check-ups.
Proactive dental care plays an important role in maintaining a healthy mouth. Regular dental examinations allow us to monitor your teeth, gums and overall oral health, helping to identify potential problems before they become more difficult to treat.
How often you should attend will depend on your individual needs. Many patients attend every six months, while some may benefit from more frequent appointments or may be advised to attend less often depending on their oral health, dental history and risk of developing problems. Your dentist will recommend a suitable recall interval for you.
During your examination, we can also provide personalised oral-health advice, including guidance on brushing, cleaning between your teeth, diet and other preventive measures to help reduce your risk of tooth decay and gum disease.
If a problem is identified, we will explain our findings and discuss any appropriate treatment options with you. This may include treatments such as fillings, root canal treatment or tooth extraction where clinically necessary.

Root Canal Treatment.
Endodontics, commonly known as root canal treatment, is a dental procedure used to treat infection or inflammation within the soft centre (pulp) of a tooth. This can occur as a result of deep decay, cracks, previous dental treatment or trauma to the tooth.
Symptoms can include toothache, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, pain when biting, swelling or tenderness around the affected tooth. However, in some cases there may be few noticeable symptoms and the problem is identified during a dental examination or X-ray.
During root canal treatment, the infected or damaged tissue inside the tooth is carefully removed. The root canals are then cleaned, disinfected and sealed to help preserve the natural tooth and prevent further infection.
More complex cases, including molar teeth requiring root canal treatment, may be referred to an endodontic specialist for assessment and treatment. Treatment time, complexity and expected outcome can vary depending on the tooth and the severity of the underlying problem.
Tooth Extractions.
At West Grove Dental, we provide specialist wisdom tooth removal in Cardiff within our dental practice. Dr Ben Omovie is a GDC-registered Specialist in Oral Surgery with extensive experience in assessing and removing wisdom teeth, including impacted and more complex cases.
Wisdom teeth can sometimes become impacted, partially erupt or grow at an angle, which may contribute to pain, swelling, infection or problems affecting the surrounding teeth and gums. Where removal is recommended, Ben can assess your wisdom teeth and carefully plan the most appropriate approach for your individual case.
Having specialist oral surgery expertise within West Grove Dental means many patients can have their wisdom teeth assessed and removed in a familiar clinical setting, without requiring a hospital referral where treatment is appropriate to be carried out in practice.
For nervous or anxious patients, IV conscious sedation may also be available where clinically appropriate, helping you feel relaxed and comfortable during your procedure.
Following your wisdom tooth removal, we will provide clear aftercare instructions and advice to support your recovery, including how to care for the area and what to expect during the healing process.
Dental Fillings.
Dental fillings are used to repair teeth that have been damaged by decay, wear or minor fractures. Treating a damaged tooth early can help prevent the problem from becoming more extensive and protect the remaining healthy tooth structure.
Tooth decay occurs when acids produced by plaque bacteria gradually damage the surface of the tooth, eventually creating a cavity. You may experience sensitivity, discomfort or toothache, although decay can sometimes develop without any obvious symptoms. Regular dental examinations can help us identify problems at an earlier stage.
During a filling, the damaged or decayed area of the tooth is carefully removed before the tooth is restored with a filling material. Local anaesthetic can be used to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure.
At West Grove Dental, we can provide tooth-coloured fillings that are carefully matched to your natural teeth, creating a discreet restoration while restoring the tooth’s shape and function.
With good oral hygiene, regular dental examinations and appropriate care, fillings can provide a durable way to restore damaged teeth and help maintain your oral health.
Emergency Dentistry.
Dental pain and unexpected problems can happen at any time. At West Grove Dental, we understand how worrying a dental emergency can be and aim to assess the problem, relieve discomfort and provide the appropriate treatment as quickly as possible.
You may need an emergency dental appointment if you are experiencing severe toothache, swelling, a dental infection or abscess, a broken or fractured tooth, a lost filling or crown, or pain following an injury to the teeth or mouth.
During your emergency appointment, your dentist will assess the affected area, identify the likely cause of the problem and discuss the treatment options available. Where possible, we will aim to relieve your immediate symptoms and stabilise the tooth before arranging any further treatment that may be required.
We welcome both existing and new patients for emergency dental care. If you are unsure whether your problem requires urgent attention, contact our team and we can advise you on the most appropriate next step.
Seeking help promptly can help relieve discomfort and may prevent a dental problem from becoming more complicated.
